QUINCY—Seven years after taking over as superintendent of Quincy Community Schools, Marc Kramer announced his resignation in a letter to the board, students, staff, and families, effective June 30.
Kramer, 57, said he reflected after 31 years in education and decided it was time to retire.
Through COVID-19, unfounded concerns by some parents that the schools were responsible for a few students’ respiratory health issues and building issues, he worked with the board to keep the schools operating smoothly in difficult times.
Kramer wrote, “As the saying goes, challenges are what make the journey worthwhile.” The schools replaced essential infrastructure such as PA systems, pipes, boilers, furnaces, floors, and kitchens, and implemented significant technology upgrades during his tenure.

The Quincy Board selected Kramer, then acting superintendent and principal at Mendon High and Middle School, following a search in April 2019.
In his letter, Kramer expressed their trust, “My deepest gratitude to the school board members I have had the privilege of working alongside. I have been fortunate to collaborate with board members who share a deep commitment to this community and its children. It has been an honor to work with such dedicated individuals.”
Kramer thanked the staff for their resilience and dedication during the difficult times. “Their unwavering commitment to our students shone through,” he wrote.
The retiring superintendent noted especially the efforts to ensure students had food and supplies during the pandemic: “Adapting to unprecedented teaching circumstances, their grit and determination were nothing short of inspiring. I am deeply proud of all they have accomplished.”
Kramer also thanked parents, students, and community members.
“Your unwavering support, which has been instrumental in our school’s success and has created a nurturing environment for our children,” his letter stated.
Wishing Quincy schools continuing success, Kramer concluded, “Thank you for making my time here so memorable.”

Board members said they expected to take up the search for a replacement at the April 21 board meeting.
