Port Huron, MI – Lake Huron Medical Center (LHMC) is proud to announce it has achieved Primary Stroke Certification through Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC), further demonstrating the hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality, timely and coordinated stroke care to the Blue Water Area.

Certification is a process through which healthcare organizations demonstrate compliance with nationally recognized standards. Certification by ACHC reflects the organization’s dedication and commitment to meeting rigorous standards designed to support a higher level of performance and patient care.

“Achieving Primary Stroke Certification is a significant accomplishment and a testament to the dedication and expertise of our entire stroke care team,” said Chris Fulks, Interim CEO and Regional CFO at LHMC. “When a stroke occurs, every second matters. Our community deserves access to exceptional stroke care close to home, and this certification reinforces our commitment to providing that care when patients need it most.” The certification recognizes Lake Huron Medical Center’s established processes for the rapid identification, evaluation and treatment of stroke patients, as well as the hospital’s commitment to staff education, multidisciplinary collaboration and continuous quality improvement.

This achievement further builds upon LHMC’s commitment to excellence in stroke care. The hospital was also recently recognized by the American Heart Association with the 2026 Get with the Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus achievement award, Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. These recognitions demonstrate LHMC’s ongoing commitment to following nationally recognized, researchbased guidelines designed to improve outcomes for stroke patients.

“Primary Stroke Certification reflects the tremendous collaboration across our organization,” said Anisha Sheth, Chief Nursing Officer of LHMC. “Our team works every day to ensure stroke patients receive rapid assessment and diagnosis to timely treatment and ongoing care; our teams are committed to following evidence-based practices that give stroke patients the best opportunity for positive outcomes. We are incredibly proud of what this certification represents for our hospital and the patients and families we serve.” With Primary Stroke Certification and national recognition from the American Heart Association, Lake Huron Medical Center continues to advance stroke care and provide the Blue Water Area with access to high-quality, evidence-based care close to home.
