BUENOS AIRES, May 14 (Reuters) – Argentina’s monthly inflation rate was 2.6% in April, down from the 3.4% registered in March but slightly above analysts’ forecast of 2.5% despite increases in all sectors, data from national statistics agency INDEC showed on Thursday.
In the 12 months through April prices rose 32.4%, edging below the previous month’s rate of 32.6% and in line with analyst forecasts.
Transportation and Education led the month’s change, with a 4.4% jump and a 4.2% bump respectively compared to the prior month.
The two sectors that recorded the smallest change in April were food and non-alcoholic beverages and recreation and culture, which saw an increase of 1.5% and 1% respectively.
On Tuesday, a Reuters poll showed analysts expected Argentina’s inflation to slow in April for the first time in almost a year despite persisting consumer price pressures.
Milei’s initial success at quashing inflation was interrupted in 2025 as concerns over a mid-term vote spilled to the economy.
His efforts were recently dealt a further blow by rising fuel costs resulting from the Iran war.
