Janet Hernandez ousted incumbent Karen Onsager for seat 5 of the Indiantown Village Council in the Aug. 18 general election. She’ll have the seat for four years.
Hernandez, who had been on Indiantown’s first Village Council, defeated Onsager.
The Village of Indiantown, which incorporated as a municipality in western Martin County on Dec. 31, 2017, has five council members.
Village Council members are paid an annual stipend of $10,000. In addition to this base compensation, they are eligible to receive reimbursements and per diems for official business travel and conference attendance.
Hernandez did not respond to a TCPalm candidate questionnaire, but her campaign website states she is a Stuart native who was raised in Indiantown. Hernandez reported she got a master’s degree in public administration in December 2025, but does not name the school, and works in a law firm as a case assistant.
Her campaign website says her mission is built on government transparency and accountability; ensuring infrastructure is in place before approving large developments; and supporting responsible, smart growth that maintains the community’s character and benefits residents, as opposed to “special-interest groups focused on profit.”
It says government leaders should be accessible and open to community concerns.
“Janet remains active in advocacy efforts across Florida and continues to engage in conversations surrounding education, affordable healthcare, immigration reform, responsible development, and government accountability,” the website states.
