ANAHEIM, CALIF. – The Milwaukee Brewers close out their six-game West Coast road swing with a final game against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 2.
Right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (11-4, 1.58) starts for the Brewers while right-hander Walbert Ureña (6-7, 2.70) counters for the Angels.
Dominance since the early home run by The Miz
To say Misiorowski got back on track after surrendering the early homer would be an understatement, as he proceeded to retire the next 14 batters the Angels sent to the plate.
That left him at just 66 pitches through six innings, leaving the pressure on the Brewers offense to deliver a few runs.
Ureña exited after six innings which figured to help matters, but after replacement Luke Murphy walked Jake Bauers to lead off the seventh, Andrew Vaughn lined out, Bauers was picked off first base and Luis Lara flew out.
Nothing doing against Walbert Ureña
Milwaukee’s aggressiveness came back to bite it in the third when David Hamilton drew a one-out walk, only to be thrown out trying to steal on the next pitch.
Brice Turang followed with a broken-bat single for the Brewers’ first hit of the day and then Jackson Chourio walked only for Andrew Vaughn to ground out to shortstop.
The Miz falls into an early hole
Ureña and Misiorowski each struck out the side swinging in the first inning, then Vaughn Grissom led off the bottom of the second with a single to center.
Two batters later, Wade Meckler sent a homer out to right-center on a cutter to leave Milwaukee and Misiorowski in an early hole.
Misiorowski has now allowed homers in four of his last five starts after going 11 straight without surrendering one.
His fastball velocity was also a couple ticks lower than what he’d typically been posting in the early innings of his recent starts, topping out at 102.3 mph on his fourth pitch.
