Former Chicago Bears running backs coach Eric Bieniemy’s wife, Mia Bieniemy, was reportedly shot Sunday night at their home in Virginia, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Mia Bieniemy was hospitalized on Monday and is in stable condition, according to ESPN Chiefs reporter Nate Taylor.
According to Taylor, Mia was shot by the couple’s son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, who was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside of a dwelling, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Eric Bieniemy, who rejoined the Kansas City Chiefs as their offensive coordinator this offseason, was with the team at their training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri.
“The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” the Chiefs said in a statement. “Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
