'Can we not?': South Carolina HC on embarrassing Texas A&M loss

After finishing last fall 8-4 and missing out on multiple opportunities to secure massive wins over the likes of Alabama and Texas A&M, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer is looking to turn the page in Columbia in 2026.

The Gamecocks will have an opportunity to avenge last year’s embarrassing loss to the Aggies, who mounted the largest comeback win in school history after trailing by 27 points at halftime in College Station. Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed bounced back from tossing two interceptions and coughing up a fumble to throw for a career-high 439 yards and three touchdowns.

Needless to say, the comeback loss to the Maroon and White at Kyle Field in 2025 is a moment Beamer and company never want to relive.

It wasn’t the only time the Gamecocks led a league foe but failed to close it out, however. Beamer’s squad had the Crimson Tide on the ropes at Williams-Brice Stadium entering the fourth quarter. Still, Bama quarterback Ty Simpson led the charge for a comeback win to close the door on a potential South Carolina upset.

Third-year starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers returns for another year in Columbia, which gives the Gamecocks’ offense a tremendous boost entering Beamer’s sixth season at the helm. Texas A&M must be prepared for Sellers’ dual-threat ability and South Carolina’s star edge rusher Dylan Stewart, who could be a solidified early-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft.

When do the Aggies take the stage at the 2026 SEC Media Days?

Texas A&M will take the podium on Wednesday, with head coach Mike Elko, quarterback Marcel Reed, defensive back Marcus Ratcliffe and linebacker Daymion Sanford representing the Aggies in Tampa. You can follow along with all of our SEC Media Days coverage here.
