The Sandusky County Emergency Management Agency is reporting on a jump to the hazard/dangerous level in Air Quality Index severity due to smoke from the Canadian wildfires.
The 4 p.m. update from Sandusky County EMA Director Lisa Kuelling indicated increasing danger from worsening air quality.
“As we continue to monitor the Air Quality Index, we will push out periodic Emergency Operation Center updates,” Kuelling said.
“Sandusky County has seen a significant jump in our AQI in the last few hours. Sandusky County is now ranging 490-620 across the county (northern portion of the county is registering higher than the southern portion of the county). However, the County is still considered within the hazardous/dangerous category,” she said.
Serious health effects can happen to anyone exposed to the air, even for a few minutes.
“Avoid outdoor activities if possible,” Kuelling said.
