A 37-year-old man lying in the northbound lane of Spring Garden Avenue near DeLand was hit and killed by a van July 15, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
According to FHP, the pedestrian was hit by a 2020 Ford Transit van around 10:18 p.m. near Douglass Avenue.
The driver of the van, a 63-year-old man from DeBary, was headed north on Spring Garden near Douglass when he hit the pedestrian lying in the roadway, investigating troopers said.

Troopers said it was unknown why the victim was lying in the roadway.
The driver of the van was not injured, and the pedestrian was transported to AdventHealth DeLand where he was pronounced dead, troopers said.
The incident remains under investigation, according to FHP.
So far in 2026, FHP crash statistics show troopers have worked 284 crashes involving pedestrians in Volusia County, with 15 fatalities.
