The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has placed a deputy on administrative leave after he shot a 23-year-old man who allegedly pointed a gun at deputies during a welfare check near Delray Beach on July 15.
The office did not identify the deputy, who will be on leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office investigate the shooting.
PBSO didn’t disclose the injured man’s name or what charges he will face. He received care for his injuries at a hospital.
The incident took place on the 15000 block of Jackson Road in Country Club Acres, a neighborhood west of the city limits near Atlantic Avenue and Military Trail, shortly after 1:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies went to the home to check on the man and found him holding a shotgun. He then pointed the weapon at the officers, according to statement by PBSO.
One of the deputies then fired his weapon.
Officers aided the man until Palm Beach County Fire Rescue paramedics arrived and drove him to the hospital.
