College Football 27 update focuses on Dynasty. What EA Sports fixed

Big changes have already come to College Football 27 after a fan revolt led to microtransactions being dropped from player and coach progressions. More were scheduled to come Thursday, July 16 with the popular video game’s first title update, though they’re not everything fans have been asking for.

In the first days after the game’s wide release date, EA Sports fielded massive blowback from early-access gamers and popular streamers upset over payments being necessary to improve coaches and players enough to make them competitive. Even worse, those microtransactions were found in the offline versions of Dynasty and Road to Glory modes that would be unique to the player.

Orlando-based EA Sports backpedaled last week, and by July 11, the microtransactions were taken out of progression systems in CFB 27. But the features that allowed gamers to make their coaches and players better more quickly — XP sliders that were a feature in College Football 26 — remained unavailable. Increasing the speed at which players can earn experience is especially important for those who don’t have the dozens to hundreds of hours it might take to do so at the game’s default pace.

The sliders are back after the latest update … sort of. In a “Campus Huddle” post July 14 on its website, EA said Coach XP Speed Settings were being replaced in Dynasty mode, but the fastest setting in CFB 26 would not be included as part of the game’s new Dynasty Blueprint, designed to make the game more true to real life. That includes NIL payments for recruits and budgets to flesh out the coaching staff. Specific coach abilities included with certain archetypes also can increase XP gains or reduce costs to unlock new traits.

“Even at level 100, you cannot unlock every perk, an intentional choice as no coach can be great at everything, and every decision should matter,” the post reads. “Dynasty Blueprint is built around that idea. Your coach, your staff, your school resources, your recruiting strategy, your AD expectations, your program goals, and your long-term decisions all work together. There is no single solved path to building a great program.”

EA also said standalone XP sliders were not returning to the player-focused Road to Glory because progression had been built into the structure of that mode. Difficulty level is also a factor in how fast a player can improve: “Throwing for 500 yards on Freshman and throwing for 500 yards on Heisman are different accomplishments,” the post read.

Another title update is in the works for next week. Here’s what we know about what’s been patched and what’s still to come:
