July is perhaps the slowest month of the year for college sports news on the field. But there are still plenty of notable developments happening off of it.
On Tuesday, USC announced a ten-year extension of its partnership with Nike as the athletic department’s uniform and equipment provider. The partnership, which began in the 1990s, will now run through at least 2036.
“USC and Nike have grown together for more than 30 years, and we are thrilled to continue one of the great partnerships in college athletics,” USC Athletic Director Jennifer Cohen said in a statement. “From the outset, these two iconic brands have made history, outfitted legends, and powered victories for generations of Trojan student-athletes, and for all we have accomplished together already, we are all the more excited for what’s to come. The impact of this extended partnership on our student-athletes, loyal fans, campus community, and the entire Trojan Family will be transformational, and we look forward to many more victories together in the years ahead.”
One notable aspect of the deal includes USC student-athletes joining Nike’s NIL roster. In addition, USC will become the first school in the country outfitted with Nike Strength equipment, the brand’s newest training technology.
There had been rumors that the Trojans would look to a different company for their next apparel deal. However, those rumors have now been put to rest, as USC is locked in with Nike for the next decade.
