Iowa basketball stars' Tuesday NBA Summer League stats

NBA Summer League action continued in Las Vegas on Tuesday with four former Iowa basketball players in action.

Bennett Stirtz, Payton Sandfort, and Josh Dix are all part of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Summer League roster, while Brendan Hausen plays for the Memphis Grizzlies. All four played their third Las Vegas Summer League games on Tuesday night and each finished with strong stat lines.

Hausen and the Grizzlies earned a dominant 106-85 victory over the Golden State Warriors. Meanwhile, Stirtz, Sandfort, Dix and the Thunder fell just short against the Denver Nuggets, 106-103.

Here are their stats from Tuesday night:

Brendan Hausen

Stats: 20 points on 7 for 9 FG, 6 for 8 3PT, 3 rebounds, 1 assist

In his first game of Memphis’ Las Vegas Summer League action, Brendan Hausen had a fantastic performance with 20 points on 7 for 9 shooting and 6 for 8 from 3-point range en route to Memphis’ 106-85 victory over Golden State.

Bennett Stirtz

Stats: 22 points on 8 for 16 FG, 2 for 8 3PT, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block

For the third consecutive game, Stirtz led all Thunder players in scoring by dropping an efficient 22 points on 8 of 16 shooting. Stirtz also recorded six assists, two rebounds, one steal, and one block, all while playing a team-high 30 minutes.

Of all the former Hawkeyes on the Thunder’s Summer League roster, Stirtz’s path to making the team’s NBA roster in the fall seems the clearest, as he will likely play a depth role off the bench as a rookie.

Payton Sandfort

Stats: 19 points on 7 of 18 FG, 2 for 8 3PT, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block

Sandfort played 27 minutes off the bench and continued to do what he does best, which is scoring in bunches. His 19 points were the second-most on the team, right behind Stirtz’s 22. While his 3-point shot didn’t fall as well as he’d have hoped, Sandfort still managed to shoot 50% from inside the arc on Tuesday.

Josh Dix

Stats: 14 points on 5 for 10 FG, 2 for 7 3PT, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block

For the second straight game, Dix got the start alongside Stirtz, which paid off for the 6-foot-6 guard as he scored 14 points on a 5 for 10 shooting night. Dix also tallied six rebounds, one assist, and one block in his 26 minutes of playing time.
