A major crash involving five vehicles and serious injuries occurred at the intersection of Montwood Drive and Joe Battle Boulevard in far East El Paso, police said.
The collision occurred about midday on Tuesday, July 14, at the intersection next to Loop 375, at a scene that included what appeared to be a wrecked vehicle atop another, among several damaged cars.
El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit is investigating the crash, police spokesman Officer Adrian Cisneros said in a message.
El Paso Fire Department paramedics transported three patients with serious injuries and three with minor injuries to hospitals, EPFD spokesman Hector Gonzalez said.
El Paso Police Department spokesman Sgt. Robert Gomez provided a slightly different number with five persons transported with two hospitalized in serious condition.
“The reasons for the crash are still under investigation,” Gomez said, adding the intersection is expected to be closed for at least three additional hours.
There is traffic congestion in the area and all lanes of Montwood heading east and west were closed, the Texas Department of Transportation said via X, formerly Twitter. All lanes were opened by about 5 p.m. Tuesday.
