Fundraiser launched for Hornell 11-year-old run over on Stephens Street

Hornell police say an 11-year-old boy is in stable condition in a Rochester hospital after being run over by a car on Stephens Street on Sunday, July 12.

According to police, the incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. as the youth attempted to cross Stephens Street while lying on a skateboard. Police said the board crossed into the path of an oncoming motor vehicle.

A Hornell Fire Department ambulance responded to the scene, and the child was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he is in stable condition, police said.

The vehicle’s driver remained at the scene and was interviewed by law enforcement, police said.

Hornell police have not released the names of the 11-year-old or the driver of the motor vehicle.

A GoFundMe drive was established to help the youth’s family during this medical emergency. Nearly $1,600 had been raised as of 1 p.m. July 14.

Police said the incident remains under investigation. No charges have been announced.
