Cardinals 3, Brewers 0: Offense is listless for Milwaukee

ST. LOUIS – Already winners of their five-game series thanks to yesterday’s doubleheader sweep, the Milwaukee Brewers again take on the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Wednesday night, July 8.

Left-hander Kyle Harrison (8-1, 2.82) starts for the Brewers with right-hander Michael McGreevy (3-7, 3.12) countering for the Cardinals.

Offense is dead in the water

After loading the bases and not scoring in the first inning against McGreevy, Milwaukee managed but a lone single over the next five innings.

Harrison, meanwhile, had retired eight of nine since allowing the Cardinals’ second run in the first until José Fermín hit a solo homer into the Brewers bullpen in left-center to increase the deficit to 3-0 in the fourth.

At just four innings and 70 pitches, Harrison was then lifted in favor of Grant Anderson. Harrison allowed four hits, three runs, didn’t walk a batter and struck out a pair.

It was his second straight start of fewer than five innings.

Luis Lara misplay begins tough first inning

Luis Lara was known for his defensive exploits as a minor-league prospect, but he did not acquit himself well on Masyn Winn’s drive to right field to open the bottom of the first when he misplayed it into a double.

A Jordan Walker double two batters later drove in Winn, then an Alec Burleson double two batters after that drove in Walker to leave Harrison and the Brewers in an early 2-0 hole.

What is the Brewers’ record?

58-33, first place in the NL Central.
