A police chase sped through Fox Den Golf Course in Stow the evening of July 7 involving multiple law enforcement cars.
There is no damage or impact to the course from the chase, said Brian Suydam, assistant manager at Fox Den Golf Course.
Police chase through Hudson and Stow
Julius Edwards of Canton, 39, was wanted in connection with an attempted murder investigation in Canton, according to a Ohio State Highway Patrol news release. After a pursuit involving multiple agencies through Hudson and Stow, Edwards crashed into a Summit Metro Parks cruiser in Stow and was taken into custody.
The suspect was first spotted by law enforcement in Hudson but failed to pull over and crashed into another car while fleeing.
After exiting his car and firing at a pursuing trooper, who returned fire, Edwards fled into nearby woods and was spotted driving a stolen minivan just before 8:25 p.m., according to police.
Witnesses say chase sped through Stow golf course
Suydam said the chase entered the city-owned course around 8:30 p.m.
“I walked around the corner of the parking lot, and then there was, I don’t know, 30 cop cars chasing a minivan,” Suydam said. “They turned into the Fox Den and went across the course. It happened pretty quickly.”
The chase exited the course through someone’s yard on Hole 6, Suydam said.
Suydam said he sent a message to everyone on the course to exit and go into lockdown, but golfers didn’t listen very quickly, as many were trying to capture video.
Ben Hyle, 35, of Kent, said he was driving up to his ball on Hole 18 when he heard sirens.
“The van turns into the parking lot, and I thought it was going to end there for some reason, but he just blew right through the parking lot and came straight up the grass and right towards us, and that’s when I started filming,” Hyle said, who owns Highland Throwbacks.
The chase sped past Hyle from about 15 to 20 feet away, he said.
“I was in complete shock, and for some reason when it happened, I don’t know why, but I just assumed it was some dumb kid doing something stupid,” he said. “Obviously, the situation was a lot more serious than that. I don’t know if I would have filmed the way I did if I would have known the severity of the situation.”
Suydam said luckily, there was no rain on Monday, so the course was dry, which prevented damage.
