After missing the past two games with a back injury, Caitlin Clark will be making her return to the Indiana Fever’s (12-8) lineup against the Los Angeles Sparks (8-11) at Crypto.com Arena tonight as the former Hawkeye has been listed as active on the team’s gameday injury report.
In the team’s practice in Los Angeles on Tuesday afternoon, Clark said she is hopeful about playing against the Sparks after she had a lengthy break since exiting in the third quarter of the Fever’s June 24 contest against the Phoenix Mercury to make headway in her recovery.
While the former Hawkeye will be making her return tonight against the Sparks, head coach Stephanie White indicated that the team plans to rule the now three-time WNBA All-Star out for Thursday night’s road visit to the Phoenix Mercury.
Although there is clearly a sense of hostility between the Fever and Mercury after the two previous meetings, White’s plan for Clark is purely out of caution, with Thursday night being the latter night of a back-to-back.
“Just with it being a back-to-back, it’s obviously kind of tough to get back into it, but then hopefully feel good after the game versus L.A., and then be available in Vegas, and then feel pretty positive going from there once we get back home as well. Feeling great. Everything’s been good up until this point, and hopefully, we have another great day of practice and be ready for tomorrow.”
Clark is averaging 21.2 points, 8.2 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game on 43% field goal shooting and 34.4% 3-point shooting.
In addition to the plan for Clark, White informed the media that center Aliyah Boston would be out against the Sparks with a lower-left-leg injury but would be made available on Thursday night.
Tipoff between the Fever and Sparks is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT and will be televised on USA Network.
