The summer celebration of America250 will continue this weekend at Mackinac State Historic Parks.
Maritime Michilimackinac will take place July 11-12 at Colonial Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City while a Forgotten Features Bicycle Tour is set for July 12 on Mackinac Island.
Maritime Michilimackinac
According to park officials, Maritime Michilimackinac will highlight the different ways people traveled, traded and lived on the water at the historic fort location, which was once a major hub of the Great Lakes fur trade. Interpreters will offer discussions and demonstrations about the skills, tools and traditions of Colonial Michilimackinac.
The park hours are 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days, and all special programs are included with regular admission.
Forgotten Features
The Forgotten Features Bicycle Tour will take place at 1 p.m. on July 12, starting at the north entrance of Fort Mackinac. Kyle Bagnall, park naturalist, will lead the tour and tell stories about Deer Park, Dousman’s Distillery, Chimney Rock, Mount Humbard, Wishing Spring and more. The route will cover about six miles. Participants need to bring their own bikes, and a bottle of water is recommended.
The bicycle tour is free, and donations are welcome.
