Florida man travels through Iowa — in a pear car. Yes, really.

Andrew Glubbey is a man on a mission. Or rather, a pear on a mission.

Glubbey is making his way from Florida to Washington in a pear car named Miss Peary. He began building his vehicle around a Moped in May using a wooden frame and an aluminum wrapping from drink cans, covered in paint.

The first successful test drive of the vehicle happened just a week later.

“I wanted to travel,” Glubbey said. “I’ve never been to the Pacific Northwest.”

On his journey, he encountered a few hiccups.

His journey from Florida to Washington was interrupted when Glubbey was pulled over by a deputy in Red Oak, Iowa, June 18 after noticing his pear car driving down the road.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, the deputy pulled the car over out of curiosity, and to make sure the vehicle didn’t have any violations and to check his information.

“It does happen pretty often, but I usually don’t get a ticket or fine or anything,” Glubbey said. “When cops are kind of bored, they’re looking for something to do. And it’s just the perfect opportunity to pull over the pear.”

In the last week of June, Miss Peary broke down in Missoula, Montana. When one Missoula resident learned of Glubbey’s misfortune, they posted to online forums to, “Help out the Pear Car dude!” A local radio station, Trail 1033, hosted him on their radio show to talk about the road so far, and how Missoulans could help get his wheels going again.

On June 30, Glubbey announced on his Instagram that Miss Peary was ready to hit the road again with a used Kawasaki 650.

“There’s some really great people out there,” Glubbey said. “A ton of people reached out to me after I made that video breaking down, and I just had an endless amount of people that were willing to help me out and get me back on the road.”

After Glubbey makes it to Washington, he hopes to stay for about a week before heading back to Florida. This time, he plans on driving down the coast to San Diego, then go east to hit Arizona and Colorado before going back to Florida.
