Michigan State University received positive news on Monday, and its men’s basketball coach was excited about it as well.
It was announced on Monday that university president Kevin Guskiewicz had changed his mind and had elected to stay with Michigan State. Guskiewicz had been announced as taking the same role with Clemson, but that is no longer going to happen. He’ll remain at Michigan State on a reported new five-year contract.
Following the announcement, Tom Izzo released a statement in support of Guskiewicz and showing his excitement that he’ll remain with the Spartans. You can see his full statement in the embedded social media post below:
Izzo recently showed his displeasure with how circumstances had led to both Guskiewicz and athletic director J Batt to leave for new gigs. As you should know by now, Batt is leaving Michigan State to become the next athletic director at Kentucky — which followed the news of Guskiewicz electing to leave for Clemson. So there surely is some happiness in the Izzo household tonight knowing Guskiewicz is no longer heading out of town and will remain a Spartan.
