Check out these outdoor music series in and around Springfield

Springfield’s summer music scene is underway with plenty of concerts on the horizon.

The Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series, presented by PNC Bank, has returned to the Y Block in downtown Springfield for its seventh season.

There are also music series in Jacksonville at Central Park Plaza and in Sherman at the Village Park Amphitheater.

The Springfield Municipal Band kicks off its 90th season this spring with regular concerts at Duncan Park and other venues.

Here’s what to know.

Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series

What: The 10-week free music series features a variety of musical genres, free kids’ activities, an SMTD cooling bus, merch tables and food trucks. Concert-goers should bring their own chairs and/or blankets.

When: Thursdays through July 30. All shows begin at 6:15 p.m.

Where: Y Block (between Fourth and Fifth streets and Capitol Avenue and Jackson Street)

Coming up: July 9, Lowdown Brass Band, with Unchained (rock/funk); July 16, Esso Funk, with Taqsem and the Candy Jams (Reggae and R&B); July 23, Carver Commodore, with Attic Salt (indie pop punk); July 30, Doc Robinson, with Gold Maps (alt indie).

Springfield Municipal Band

What: The Springfield Municipal Band strikes up its 90th season. Tom Philbrick is the director.

Where: Various, but Duncan Park is its home bandshell.

Schedule: July 7, Duncan Park Band Shell, 7:30 p.m.; July 8, Edwards Place, 3 p.m.; July 11, ALPLM, 10 a.m.; July 14, Duncan Park Band Shell, 7:30 p.m.; July 15, Edwards Place, 3 p.m.; July 18, ALPLM, 10 a.m.; July 21, Duncan Park Band Shell, 7:30 p.m.; July 22, Edwards Place, 3 p.m.; July 25, ALPLM, 10 a.m.; July 28, Duncan Park Band Shell, 7:30 p.m.; July 29, Edwards Place, 3 p.m.; Aug. 4, Duncan Park Band Shell, 7:30 p.m.; Aug. 5, Edwards Place, 3 p.m.; Aug. 15, Illinois State Fair, Village of Cultures Band Stand, noon.

Sherman Live at the Amp Xfinity Concert Series

What: The nine-act lineup at the amphitheater in Sherman Village Park includes tribute bands and local favorites. Most concerts are $11 up to one week before the show.

When: Most Saturdays through Sept. 19. Shows start at 7 p.m. with headliner at 9 p.m.

Where: Sherman Village Park Amphitheater, 1200 Rail Fence Road, Sherman

Lineup: July 11, Hells Bells (AC/DC tribute band), with Use Your Illusion (Guns ‘n Roses tribute band); July 17, Somebody’s Problem (Morgan Wallen tribute act), with Eric Church, Miranda Lambert and Kenny Chesney tributes, 6 p.m.; July 25, Lick Creek, $5; Aug. 8, Power of Love (Huey Lewis tribute act), with Decade of Decadence (the ultimate 80s rock party); Sept. 12, Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters, $5; Sept. 19, NIL8 (punk/alternative), with Dysfunctional Family (hard rock/heavy metal).

Jacksonville Main Street Downtown Concert Series

What: Produced by Jacksonville Main Street, the series has the look and vibe of a Levitt AMP series, and, in fact, Jacksonville played host to Levitt AMP in 2016-17.

When: Through July 31

Where: Jacksonville Central Park Plaza, at the intersection of North Central Park Street and West Central Park Street

Lineup: July 17, Champ Jaxon Band (rockin’ blues); July 24, Shagadelics (disco); July 31, Clay Clear Band (country).
