Which Abilene Tex-Mex spot is the best? Vote now

It can be rather difficult picking a place to eat, and it gets even harder when the options seem unlimited in a place like Abilene.

But, if you’re fortunate to narrow it down to the genre of food you want, say Mexican, then you might have an easier time picking what sounds good.

We rounded up some of Abilene’s most popular Tex-Mex and Mexican restaurants, and now we want you to decide which one is your favorite by voting in our Abilene’s Best Tex-Mex restaurant bracket.

Abuelos

A popular Texas chain restaurant offering traditional Tex-Mex items and unique House Specialties, Abuelos Mexican Restaurant is located at 4782 S. 14th St. and offers made-from-scratch dishes utilizing fresh ingredients and authentic flavors.

Menu highlights include the Fajita Trio with freshly made tortillas, a spicy queso diablo and the green chile pork chimichanga. 

Monterrey Restaurant

Serving authentic Tex-Mex right in the heart of Abilene, Monterrey Restaurant was opened in 2010 and has been a local staple in the community since.

Located at 3310 N. 10th St., Monterrey Restaurant’s menu includes many Tex-Mex classics, such as chile rellenos, beef fajita nachos and huevos rancheros.

Miguel’s

Located right off Highway 83, Miguel’s Mex-Tex Cafe pairs flavor with style at a contemporary-styled bar and eatery.

Serving brunch, lunch and dinner, Miguel’s offers a variety of Tex-Mex favorites, including the fajitas de Miguel, the chicken fried chile relleno and the chubby chimi.

Oscar’s Mexican Restaurant

With two locations in Abilene, 5125 Buffalo Gap Rd and 1665 Texas Highway 351, Oscar’s Mexican restaurant offers a wide menu of Tex-Mex favorites, including chimichangas drenched in queso and sizzling fajita plates.

Popular dishes at Oscar’s include the enchilada plate, hot salsa and chips, and queso.

Casa Herrera

Founded in 1974 by Chris and Liz Herrera, Casa Herrera has served as a cornerstone of Abilene’s dining scene for over half a century, offering authentic Mexican cuisine and hospitality.

Located at 4109 Ridgemont Drive, the restaurant’s menu includes many Mexican classics, including beef fajitas, hand-rolled enchiladas smothered in queso, crispy tostadas and their beloved house margaritas.

Blue Agave

Located at 1881 N. Treadaway Blvd., Blue Agave was opened in 2023 by Francisco Hernandez and is one of four Blue Agave restaurants across West Texas.

Incorporating fresh ingredients and authentic Mexican flavors, Blue Agave offers a wide menu including sizzling fajitas and hand-rolled enchiladas to house-made salsa and street-style tacos.

Los Arcos 

Family-owned and operated, Los Arcos was opened in 1997 at 1902 Ambler Ave. and offers a cozy atmosphere with many familiar Tex-Mex favorites.

Popular items include the chile con queso, a homemade spicy cheese dip with pickled jalapeños, the enchilada plate and the taco regular.

Chuy’s

Chuy’s Tex-Mex, a regional Mexican restaurant originating from Austin with over 101 locations across 15 states, opened its Abilene location in fall 2025 and has quickly become a favorite among the community.

Located at 4104 S. Clack Street, Chuy’s offers a fresh and authentic Tex-Mex menu with flavors inspired by Mexican border towns, the Rio Grande Valley, and South Texas.
