Austin Brown’s tenure with the Colts
Following the 2026 NFL draft, the Colts signed Brown as an undrafted rookie. Brown reportedly earned $272,500 in guaranteed money to sign with the Colts, which was among the most of all UDFAs league-wide.
What to know about Austin Brown
Brown played 1,528 defensive snaps over four seasons at Wisconsin, with 672 of those snaps coming last year. He has experience playing deep safety, in the box, and at the nickel.
Brown generated seven pass breakups over the last three years and allowed 10.5 yards per catch in coverage over his career. He had a missed tackle rate of 12%, according to PFF. Brown is an experienced special teams contributor, with 441 career snaps.
He is a good athlete, registering a Relative Athletic Score (RAS) of 8.95 out of 10, which included a 4.5-second 40-time and elite vertical and broad jump measurements.
Looking ahead to 2026 for Austin Brown
The Colts reshaped the safety room this offseason, potentially leaving little to no room for Brown to make a roster push.
Cam Bynum, AJ Haulcy, and Hunter Wohler are roster locks, while Jonathan Owens and Juanyeh Thomas are recent free agent additions. That is potentially five roster spots accounted for, and it’s not often that a team keeps six safeties. For what it’s worth, the Colts did keep only four safeties on last year’s initial 53-man roster.
That said, the Colts can get out of Owens’ and Thomas’ deals with relative ease if needed during roster cutdowns. Brown being able to contribute on special teams will be a must if he is going to surpass Owens or Thomas on the depth chart.
