Just before 53-man rosters for the 2025 season had to be set, the Colts acquired Blackmon in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings. The Colts sent a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Vikings in return.
Recapping Mekhi Blackmon’s 2025 season with the Colts
As the Colts navigated injuries at cornerback, Blackmon ended up playing a significant role, which included playing 784 snaps while also making 11 starts.
On 66 targets, he allowed 42 completions (63.6%) and surrendered 13.4 yards per catch. Blackmon also had two pass breakups and two interceptions. He was, however, penalized a hefty eight times.
Looking ahead to 2026 for Mekhi Blackmon
Blackmon finds himself in a crowded Colts’ cornerback room, competing for a backup role on the depth chart and potentially a roster spot.
With Sauce Gardner, Charvarius Ward, and Justin Walley accounting for three roster spots, there are two to three up for grabs depending on how many cornerbacks the Colts keep.
In addition to Blackmon, also vying for a roster spot are Cam Taylor-Britt, Johnathan Edwards, Jaylon Jones, and Cameron Mitchell. Chances are that two or three of those players won’t make the final 53-man.
One would think that Blackmon’s experience from last season in Lou Anarumo’s defense could be an advantage for him.
