A mid-century modern home once owned by the family behind Detroit’s iconic Faygo soft drink has hit the market for $700,000.
Built in 1960 on Seven Mile Road overlooking the Detroit Golf Club, the five-bedroom home remained in the Feigenson family until 2013, according to the listing. The Feigenson brothers founded the Feigenson Brothers Bottling Works in Detroit in 1907. The company later adopted the name Faygo, which grew into one of the city’s best-known soft drink brands.
The residence includes 3,531 square feet of above-ground living space and retains many of its original mid-century architectural details.
“What I really appreciate about this house is that it really hasn’t been touched,” said listing agent Austin Black II of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate Detroit. “That’s what mid-century modern buyers want. They want homes that haven’t been modernized to the point where the original character has been lost.”
According to Black, the home at 2771 W. Seven Mile Road was custom built by a son of one of Faygo’s founders who was serving as the company’s CEO at the time. Black said the family’s decades of ownership helped preserve the home’s original design.
“They spared no expense when they built it,” Black said. “The fact that the same family owned it for so many years is probably one of the reasons it looks as original as it does today.”
A circular driveway leads to a two-story foyer with travertine flooring and a wall of windows overlooking the golf course. Walnut paneling, exposed wood-beam ceilings, custom built-ins and a floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace are among the home’s original features.
Black said buyers seeking mid-century modern homes often expand their search beyond a single community because well-preserved examples can be difficult to find.
“There are buyers who specifically look for mid-century modern homes, and they’ll search across multiple cities just to find one that’s this original,” Black said.
The kitchen retains its original walnut cabinetry with reeded-glass upper cabinets. The current owner updated the space with quartz countertops, a butcher-block island with a gas cooktop and stainless-steel appliances while maintaining the home’s mid-century aesthetic.
The first-floor primary suite includes a dressing room with walnut built-ins and a marble bathroom with dual vanities. Four additional bedrooms and three full bathrooms, including two en-suite bedrooms, are located upstairs.
Black said homes like this are uncommon in a neighborhood known primarily for Tudor and Colonial architecture.
He said the home stands out because it has remained largely untouched while many mid-century homes have been extensively remodeled over the years.
The property overlooks the Detroit Golf Club, which is scheduled to host the 2026 Rocket Mortgage Classic, and is near Palmer Park and the Avenue of Fashion. It qualifies for Detroit’s Neighborhood Enterprise Zone homestead property tax abatement.
