Four candidates are running for the open District 1 seat on the Port St. Lucie City Council, hoping to succeed incumbent Stephanie Morgan, who is not seeking reelection.
Indony Jean Baptiste, Rick Meltzer, Eric Reikenis and Kevin Zimmerman are competing in the nonpartisan race.
Port St. Lucie voters on Aug. 18 will select a mayor and commissioners for District 3, the most southwestern portion of the city, and District 1, which covers the northeastern and eastern portions of the city. If none of the candidates receive more than 50% plus one vote, the top two candidates will go to a run-off in the Nov. 3 General Election.
Port St. Lucie City Council members are elected to four-year terms. All eligible voters can cast ballots for the four district council members, but candidates must live in the district they’re running to represent. The mayor, also a City Council member, is elected citywide.
Editor’s note: TCPalm sent questionnaires to all qualifying candidates. Their responses are below.
Indony Jean Baptiste chose not to participate in questionnaire.
