The Los Angeles Lakers’ interest in Denver Nuggets wing Peyton Watson has been well documented over the last several months. But he will be a restricted free agent, and the Nuggets could easily match any offer he receives from another team.
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype wrote in a recent article that Denver is determined to keep Watson this summer. But the franchise is operating with some financial constraints, and some have speculated that keeping Watson could necessitate jettisoning starting forward Cameron Johnson.
According to Scotto, the Lakers are one team that has interest in trading for Johnson.
“Meanwhile, as the Nuggets navigate getting below the second apron, sharpshooting forward Cam Johnson has drawn trade interest from several teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers, and Orlando Magic, league sources told HoopsHype. The 30-year-old forward shot career-highs from the field (.480) and beyond the arc (.430), and is on an expiring $23.06 million contract for the upcoming season.”
Johnson saw his numbers go down this season in his first go-around with Denver. He averaged 12.2 points a game after clocking in at 18.8 points a game during the 2024-25 campaign with the Brooklyn Nets. But he has proven over the years that he’s a productive complementary scorer and a very potent, high-volume 3-point shooter.
At 6-foot-8 and 210 pounds, Johnson can play both the small forward and power forward positions, which would give Los Angeles some optionality with its lineups should it land him in a trade.
