The body of a newborn was found Sunday in a portable toilet at the Electric Forest festival in Rothbury, Michigan.

A restroom company employee discovered the body during routine maintenance at the camping area, according to the Michigan State Police Sixth District.

Sources confirmed a body of a baby was found at the festival, WOOD-TV reported. It said Electric Forest contracts with state police to provide security at the event, which draws tens of thousands of people each year.

State police asked for the public’s help. “If you were in the area and observed anything unusual, or if you have information you believe may be relevant, we encourage you to come forward,” said a statement on X from the west Michigan post.

“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and ask that people avoid speculation on social media out of respect for the investigation and those affected.”

Electric Forest also wrote: “Forest Family, it causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you. @michstatepolice continues to investigate this tragic event if you can assist in any way. HQ is heartbroken and knows that our Forest Family is as well.”

The music festival at the Double JJ Resort began Thursday and ends Sunday night.

An investigation is ongoing.
