Good Sam Hospital’s growth reflected decades of expansion and change

Good Samaritan Hospital saw many renovations and additions during its time of service to the community. A campaign for such in the 1950s raised more than $3 million.

Construction on a seven-story addition began in 1954 and was completed in 1956.

An additionally seven-story building was built on Myrtle Ave in 1966. In 1974 the early 1900s buildings were razed and replaced with a new three-story service building.

The first Medical Art Building opened in 1977 and the second in 1995.

Good Sam merged with Bethesda Hospital to form Genesis HealthCare System in 2015.

The demolition of Good Sam began on July 11, 2016. The main hospital structures were taken down section by section over several months, with the site clearing and restoration largely finishing by the end of 2016.
