Balanced Fever attack leads to blow out of Sparks without Caitlin Clark

INDIANAPOLIS — Even without Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever dominated the Los Angeles Sparks 111-87 on Saturday night. Indiana was up by 20 at halftime and never let its foot off the gas, leading by as many as 35 throughout the second half.

Clark (back) was ruled out for the game after she left Wednesday’s game early. The Sparks were also missing leading scorer Kelsey Plum and key bench player Cameron Brink.

Fishers native Tyasha Harris started in Clark’s place, and she delivered. She matched her season-high of seven points in the first quarter, and finished with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Kelsey Mitchell, who sat the fourth quarter because of the Fever’s giant lead, finished with 26 points in 26 minutes. Aliyah Boston also played fewer minutes because of Indiana’s lead, finishing with 17 points in 20 minutes.

Here’s what I liked and disliked (sorta), and what the win means.

What the Indiana Fever win vs Los Angeles Sparks means

The Fever, even without their top player, can turn it on. To the point where they’re able to give their starters some significant rest in the second half. Above all, this was a confidence-building game for the Fever, allowing their bench to get some run and giving them some assurance heading into an eight-day break, then a four-game road trip starting in Las Vegas on July 5.
