Detroit Lions' top 2025 injury news: No. 9, Marcus Davenport

Pass rush has been a major weakness of the Lions for many years, even with the addition of Aidan Hutchinson. That’s why the team was hoping EDGE Marcus Davenport could stay healthy for the 2025 season. Unfortunately, that did not come to pass.

Here is the excerpt from Lions top 10 injury news of 2025: No. 9 Marcus Davenport pec, shoulder:

The unrequited hope of pass rushing help is why Davenport’s injury claims a spot in the top 10 Lions injury news of the 2025 season.

The injury: Right shoulder, pec (Sept. 14, 2025)

Unfortunately, it only took until Week 2 for the fears to become founded as Davenport went down with a significant injury.

The injury was initially listed as a shoulder, and then changed to a chest, and later back to a shoulder again. There was a report that he had a pec strain which would fit a chest designation.

The curious, fluctuating, body-part listing made me suspect that there were two separate issues going on, a pec and a shoulder.

The rest of the season

After missing nine games and returning in Week 13 (Nov. 27), Davenport would intermittently exhibit residual discomfort the rest of the season. It doesn’t appear he ever fully recovered.

Davenport finished the 2025 season having played in eight games. He recorded just one sack, one tackle for loss, and three quarterback hits.

Current status

The Lions have since moved on from Davenport by adding a low medical concern Derrick Moore in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, along with multiple free agents like DJ Wonnum.

Currently, Davenport remains an unsigned free agent, and his health and reliability concerns are a major reason for that.
