Marathon track sensation Chris Marcell headed to World Championships

MARATHON – As his high school career came to a close in the past few weeks, Marathon track sensation and University of Oklahoma commit Chris Marcell’s track season has only kicked into a higher gear.

Last week, Marcell once again turned heads on the national level, competing in Oregon at the U20s qualifications and Nike Outdoor Nationals, walking away with two top-10 finishes.

At the Nike Outdoors event, Marcell notched a podium finish, taking third place in discus throw and eighth place in the in shot put event, earning All-American recognition in both events.

Competing with the top high school and college freshmen throwers under 20 years old at the U20s meet, Marcell notched a second place finish to earn a spot as one of the top two moving on.

Marcell, recently named Wisconsin Gatorade track and field athlete of the year for the second consecutive year, is set to compete again in August at the U20s Worlds Championships.

The effort helped him get one step closer to his lifelong dream of competing in the Olympics. In August, he will now have the prestigious honor of representing his home country as a member of Team USA.
