Weber was shot an killed after police were called to a home in the 500 Block of Colonial Avenue just before 1 p.m. for a medical emergency. The call was about a man possibly overdosing on scene, according to information shared with the media by EPD.

An on-duty, plain-clothes detective was in the area and responded.

“After arriving the detective retrieved his department issued Narcan and approached the home,” EPD stated. “Due to his plain clothes status, the detective openly displayed his badge on a lanyard around his neck and announced himself as a police officer.”

The detective approached around the corner of the hall where the male was said to be. That’s when police say he saw a white man with a gun pointed in their direction.

“As the male suspect approached, he fired at the detective,” the release states. “The detective returned fire before retreating outside the home and taking cover in the front yard.”

According to EPD, the man, now identified as Weber, followed and pointed his gun at the detective and an adult woman on scene.

“The detective fired additional shots until the threat was stopped,” the release states.

Weber died on scene.

EPD plans to hold a press conference Friday to provide additional information. No time has been announced as of publication.
