Six crew members of the USS Indianapolis (LCS 17) needed treatment after a fire while moored at Naval Station Mayport.
The fire was reported at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24.
“Mayport Fire and Emergency Services and the ship’s crew responded immediately and quickly extinguished the localized fire,” Public Affairs Officer David Holmes said. “Six shipboard personnel were evaluated and treated at local hospitals for minor injuries. All have since been released and returned to the ship. The cause of the incident is being reviewed.”
The Indianapolis, a littoral combat ship designed to support mine countermeasures, anti-submarine and surface warfare missions, has been homeported at Mayport since 2019.
