The Milwaukee Brewers go for a series victory over the Cincinnati Reds on June 23 at Great American Ball Park.
Follow along for live updates as Brandon Sproat (1-4, 5.94) opposes Nick Lodolo (2-2, 6.12) in the starting pitching matchup.
Brewers RISP woes continue in fourth
A night after going hitless with runners in scoring position, the Brewers wasted their best rally opportunity of the series in the fourth.
Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang opened the inning with singles, with Chourio’s smashing off Lodolo’s pitching hand and leading to a visit from the trainer.
Lodolo remained in an struck out William Contreras by pumping in a 3-1 strike on a sinker down the middle the Brewers designated hitter took the whole way before getting a chase on a sweeper off the plate. After Andrew Vaughn walked, Lodolo froze Jake Bauers on a 3-2 pitch and got Gary Sanchez to chase ball four and fly out to center for the third out.
Lodolo then exited the game following the fourth with a left wrist contusion and Julian Garcia, making his MLB debut, entered.
9 up and 9 down on both sides
For the second consecutive day, neither team has a hit through three innings.
Milwaukee put one man on via error and he was immediately erased in the third inning, while Sproat has six strikeouts while retiring the first nine Reds he faced.
Sproat has registered at least one whiff on six different pitch types through three.
Luis Rengifo released
Prior to the game, the Brewers released infielder Luis Rengifo after he had previously been placed on release waivers.
Rengifo batted .205 with a .534 OPS in 57 games for Milwaukee.
