A man riding a bicycle was killed by an Amtrak Train en route from Chicago to Pontiac on Monday, Amtrak officials confirmed in an email to the Free Press on Tuesday, June 23.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., Train 354 made contact with a person on the track west of Kalamazoo.
According to media reports, the man, whose name and age were not immediately released, is dead after the train hit the bicyclist, who was attempting to cross the railroad tracks at the intersection of Stadium Drive and Oliver Street near Western Michigan University.
The Free Press reached out to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, which did not respond for comment.
Train 354 continued east after a delay of one hour and 22 minutes.
There were no reports of injuries to the approximately 264 passengers or to the crew members, Amtrak said.
