What are you doing this weekend? That can be one of the most anticipated, and sometimes dreaded, questions at the conclusion of a busy week.
While the weekend finally provides much-needed me time, it can sometimes be daunting trying to figure out exactly what is going on to participate in.
That’s why we did the work for you and rounded up some of the top local events happening here in Abilene.
Here are three local events you won’t want to miss.
‘The Sound of Music’ at the Paramount Theater
Abilene’s historic Paramount Theater will be holding its 33rd annual summer musical, “The Sound of Music,” this weekend, Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28.
Spectators will enjoy an evening of live theater as cast members present a beloved classic in the heart of downtown Abilene.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, doors open at 1 p.m., and the show begins at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $16 and can be purchased at the Paramount’s website.
Live music at the Big Country Beer Garden
Enjoy an evening of live music and good drinks as Justin Pickard and the Thunderbird Winos make their debut Abilene performance at the Big Country Beer Garden on Saturday, June 27.
The band originates from Dallas and was recently named the winner of the 2026 Dallas Entertainment Awards Best Country Act.
Music starts at 8 p.m., and general admission tickets can be purchased online for $15 with an option to reserve a table with four seats for $120.
1884 historical reenactment
Frontier Texas! will host a historical reenactment based on the 1884 Pine Street Shootout on Saturday, June 27 at 625 N. First Street.
The shootout starts at noon at the outdoor courtyard and will last approximately 10 minutes. Character meet and greets will follow.
The event is free to attend, and more information can be found on the Frontier Texas! website.
