As sports-related sorrow sweeps across the city, Milwaukee’s Hoan Bridge will soon light up green to pay tribute to the Bucks following the trade of franchise superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis Jr. were traded to the Miami Heat, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel learned late Monday, June 22.
“Today feels like the end of an era,” Light the Hoan said in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 23. “And while it’s hard to say goodbye, I’m grateful. Grateful for the championship, memories and for the pride these two brought to Milwaukee.”
In addition to green, the bridge will be lit with a “touch of blue and white” in a nod to Antetokounmpo’s Greek heritage.
The Bucks will receive Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’El Ware, Kasparas Jakučionas, four draft picks and a pick swap.
Antetokounmpo, 31, was drafted by the Bucks in 2013 and is Milwaukee’s franchise leader in points, assists and games played. He scored 50 points in the Bucks’ NBA championship clinching game in 2021.
“You’ll always have a home here,” Light the Hoan’s post said.
