NFL analysts continue to pile on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offseason.
The latest to do so is Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports, who put together his list of the NFL’s “biggest offseason losers.”
Coming in at No. 1 were the Jaguars.
Like many before him, Dajani was critical of the Jaguars’ free agency approach, which saw Devin Lloyd and Travis Etienne sign elsewhere, while the only outside signing made during those initial waves was bringing in running back Chris Rodriguez.
Dajani was also not a fan of the Jaguars’ draft class — like many others — which featured Jacksonville picking tight end Nate Boerkircher at 56th overall.
“The Jags objectively got worse in free agency,” Dajani wrote. He then added, “The Jaguars put together what many would call the worst class this year. It’s not fair to judge an entire draft class before the players have taken a single snap, but the picks were a bit confusing.”
Like we’ve discussed before, the quiet free agency period was, in part, a product of James Gladstone being mindful of the 2027 compensatory draft picks that the Jaguars are projected to land. It also speaks to the current state of the roster, which he is clearly very bullish about.
As far as the draft goes, many of the Jaguars’ selections allow Jacksonville to counter emerging trends across the NFL, specifically by utilizing heavier personnel packages on offense against the frequent split-safety looks defenses deploy in today’s game.
Other selections also fit very well with what the Jaguars want to accomplish on each side of the ball. Jalen Huskey and Zach Durfee bring versatility to Anthony Campanile’s unit, while Wesley Williams has a well-rounded skill set.
Wide receivers CJ Williams and Josh Cameron fit that big-bodied mold that Liam Coen prefers and are willing to help in the run game. Emmanuel Pregnon adds more size up front.
While Gladstone may have gone against the grain this offseason with his roster-building approach, he did help orchestrate a 13-4 season in his first year as GM — so maybe we should see how things play out first. Whether you like the plan or not, the Jaguars have one in place; they may just be taking an unexpected route to arrive at the destination.
