Prosecutors: Tallahassee man faces federal gun charge after indictment

A Tallahassee man has been indicted in federal court on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The indictment was announced June 22 by Jack Heekin, the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

David Benjamin Davis, 43, appeared in federal court in Tallahassee for his arraignment before U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles Stampelos, a news release said, and pleaded not guilty.

A jury trial now is set for July 20 before Senior U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle.

According to the indictment, Davis this February was found in possession of a Glock .40 caliber pistol. In February 2011, however, Davis had been convicted on robbery and drug charges.

If convicted on the latest charge, Davis faces up to 15 years’ imprisonment.

The case was jointly investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Tallahassee Police Department. Davis is represented by the Federal Public Defender’s Office.
