A driver who fatally hit a pedestrian initially left the scene of the crash but later contacted police, Columbus police said.
An adult pedestrian was walking south in the eastbound lanes of Morse Road just past Sunbury Road on June 22 on the city’s Northeast Side, according to a Columbus police news release.
At 12:08 a.m., a black sedan driving east on Morse Road hit the pedestrian, then continued east and left the area, police said.
Medics brought the pedestrian to Riverside Methodist Hospital, where the pedestrian was pronounced dead.
At 1:45 a.m., the owner of the vehicle called Columbus police and said their vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, was involved in the crash. A short time later, the adult who was driving the vehicle contacted and met with detectives from the Columbus police Accident Investigation Unit.
Police have not said whether the driver will face charges and have not identified the pedestrian, the vehicle’s owner or its driver.
