Former Jets draft bust signs with the Cowboys

One of the best parts about the offseason is watching obscure players and former NFL draft busts sign contracts elsewhere. With 90-man rosters, random transactions with connections to your favorite team happen all the time. The New York Jets recently got a firsthand experience.

Denzel Mims recently signed a contract with the Dallas Cowboys, per ESPN.

Yes, the same Mims who Jets drafted (and whiffed on) with the 59th overall selection in the 2020 NFL draft.

He lasted just three seasons with the Jets, and has since been a journeyman, including multiple stints in the UFL (United Football League).

Mims was most recently with the Dallas Renegades, who selected him during the 2026 UFL Draft. This past UFL season, Mims recorded six receptions for 55 yards in five appearances. The Cowboys had a nearby seat to his performance given the close proximity between the franchises.

Mims was a massive draft bust for the Jets, but the organization is far better off at wide receiver now. Garrett Wilson is locked in as the offense’s No. 1 wideout after signing a massive contract extension. Adonai Mitchell is beginning to emerge as a legitimate option, and the Jets also drafted Omar Cooper Jr. with a first-round pick.
