First we couldn't watch Disney+. Then came the phishing

Families everywhere planning to rewatch the first four “Toy Story” movies before seeing the new film this weekend had their hopes dashed Thursday night.

Full disclosure: My family was actually planning to binge-watch “Bob’s Burgers,” but we, too, were met with a login error on the Disney+ app.

Downdetector had more than 20,000 outage reports for the streaming platform starting just before 7 p.m. on June 18. Reports were dwindling by 9 p.m., but then a new problem arose: Phishing attempts.

After sleeping in on a day off work on Friday, we got a promising email in our inbox linked to Disney+ asking us to re-enter billing information. That email takes you to a very believable page seeking to capture your credit card details.

If you fell for it, you probably need to cancel whatever card you used. Banks are also closed Friday due to the Juneteenth federal holiday, so that means you won’t be able to get a new card right away.

How to tell if that Disney+ email is a phishing attempt

Check the email address it comes from and the website it takes you to (ours had a misspelling of “Disney” as “Disny,” which could be easily overlooked.
