With his first season as a Longhorn in the books, Carson Tinney is making national headlines. The Colorado native was named a Rawlings Gold Glove Winner on Tuesday. He was one of nine players to win the honor and the only Longhorn. As the MLB Draft inches closer, it is another example of why Tinney is an elite talent.
During the 2026 campaign, the former Notre Dame product finished with a .997 fielding percentage and guided the Longhorns’ pitching staff to a 1.21 WHIP, which was the fifth-best mark in the country. He also made life difficult for base-runners and made the transition the SEC easy.
Although Tinney was honored for his defense, he was also a key piece of the offense. In 61 games, the Valor Christian High native drove in 58 runs and was one of the Longhorns’ main sources of power. He added 35 extra-base hits to his resume, including 22 home runs. That made him hard to take out of the lineup regardless of who was on the mound.
Over the next few months, Tinney’s focus will be on preparing for the MLB Draft. He is one of the top catching prospects in the nation and raised his stock with his play in the burnt orange. While he still has one year of eligibility, it would be a surprise for Tinney not to hear his name called during the draft.
Regardless of what the next few months hold, Tinney has a bright future ahead. He made the most of his time in Austin and now has more hardware to look back on, remembering a season in which he left an unforgettable legacy for one of the best programs in the nation.
