New York Knicks guard Tyler Kolek recently experienced a classic Canyon of Heroes parade blunder: Police mistook him for a regular fan during the team’s championship ticker-tape festivities.
The viral video of the mix-up had fans laughing and debating player recognition in the Big Apple.
Retired Giants kicker and two-time Super Bowl champion Lawrence Tynes jumped in with his own confession. On X, he replied to the Kolek clip.
In 2012, following the Giants’ Super Bowl XLVI win, Tynes got similar treatment from security amid the massive Canyon of Heroes celebration—apparently blending seamlessly with the confetti crowd despite his heroics.
It looks like NYC parade security has a funny habit of punting on identifying champions, whether it’s a basketball bench player or an NFL kicker. Fans are calling it an emerging tradition.
From field goals to foul lines, these “offside” encounters prove even title contributors can get carded like civilians. Next time, security might need a highlight reel—or at least name tags—to avoid benching the stars by mistake.
