Notre Dame recruiting: Next up at LB after missing on Kaden Henderson

Notre Dame football missed out on its top 2027 linebacker target Kaden Henderson on Thursday afternoon, as its left them without a current commit at the position in the current recruiting cycle.

Previously the Irish had two commits, but Amarri Irvin and Ellis McGaskin both flipped to other schools. It’s a position that Notre Dame has done well with in the past, but typically the coaching staff likes to bring in a few each class.

At this point it isn’t looking all that great that it will happen, as many of the top prospects have already made commitments. There is plenty of potential for flips, but at this moment, it’s fairly quiet on that front.

Let’s take a look at a few uncommitted options that Notre Dame still has to fill its linebacker spots in the 2027 class.

Roman Igwebuike

The 6-foot, 3-inch and 220-pounder is just coming off his official visit to South Bend last weekend, and by all accounts it went extremely well. Igwebuike currently doesn’t have any other trips scheduled, as a commitment could be coming soon.

Sean Fox

The in-state linebacker doesn’t have Notre Dame as a top option, but at one point the was a connection. The 6-foot, 5-inch and 219-pound Warren Central star makes sense for the Irish to reconnect with as long as Fox is interested. If Notre Dame can get him on campus soon, he could become a possibility once again. Kentucky is viewed as his favorite at the moment.

Transfer portal

Notre Dame is set to lose Drayk Bowen, Jaylen Sneed and potentially Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa after this season, but you have to expect plenty of the younger players to see the field this fall. That will help for the 2027 season, but with the success that the Irish had recruiting the transfer portal, if they only bring in one 2027 recruit, it’s not the end of the world. There is still plenty of young talented players on the roster, Madden Faraimo and Thomas Davis Jr. to name a few, so adding a few in the portal with experience could very well be Notre Dame’s best option.
