Between Juneteenth celebrations, Father’s Day barbecues, Tigers games and Fourth of July parties, hot dog season is upon us.
Sure, there are the backyard barbecue classics — there’s nothing like hamburgers, tender marinated pieces of chicken, plump shrimp or buttery cobs of corn singed on a grill — but the unofficial dish of summer is the hot dog.
No matter the variety — beef or pork, split or whole, boiled or fried — the hot dog is an American classic. If there’s an outdoor gathering, the scent of a hot dog on a grill is certainly wafting through the air. Going to a Tigers game? Bet you’ll find yourself peeling sticky, steamed hot dog buns off of your teeth. And for some odd reason, those coneys with their chili, mustard and onion toppings are seemingly harder to resist as the temps rise.
The staple is so central to the summer experience, we’re asking readers across the USA TODAY Network to name their favorite national hot dog brand. That’s the brand you reach for in your go-to grocery store when prepping for a cookout. We’re talking Oscar Mayer, Hebrew National, Nathan’s Famous.
Not seeing your trusted hot dog brand on the poll? Feel free to write it in.
We’ll reveal the winning brand around July Fourth weekend — right on time for your next gathering.
Note: Poll closes at 11:59 p.m. on July 21
