US Open live scores, updates: Play suspended early in Round 1 (fog)

The Father’s Day weekend tradition continues on the PGA Tour calendar with the 2026 U.S. Open from Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, New York.

J.J. Spaun is this year’s defending champion, after he was the only player to finish the four rounds at Oakmont under par. This year’s usual cast of players includes favorites Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, but it will also include a pair of amateurs from Florida, Miles Russell and Guiseppe Puebla.

Round 1 suspended due to fog

At 7:05 a.m., with less than 15 players out on the course, play was suspended due to fog that hindered visibility. At 8:45 a.m., play was scheduled to resume at 9:05 a.m.

Round 1 of the 2026 U.S. Open will broadcast nationally on USA starting at 6:30 a.m. before switching to NBCSN and Peacock at 5 p.m. The main broadcast is available to stream via Sling, which carries USA. Featured group and hole streaming is available on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s subscription streaming service, or for free at USOpen.com starting at 7:30 a.m.

Where is the US Open being played?

The U.S. Open site rotates every year, and this year’s host is Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on Long Island in Southampton, New York. The course opened in 1891 and has hosted five previous U.S. Opens, most recently in 2018. Shinnecock Hills plays at par-70 over 7,440 yards.

J.J. Spaun picked up his first career major title when he was the only player to finish under par at the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. His 65-foot birdie putt on the final hole capped a two-stroke victory over Robert MacIntyre.

US Open weather update: Shinnecock forecast for Thursday

AccuWeather predicts a high of 72 degrees with mostly cloudy skies in the forecast today in Southampton, New York. Winds are expected to blow out of the south at about 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. There is a 55% chance of rain and a 33% chance of thunderstorms.
