SPRINGFIELD, IL – A respected Springfield insurance agency has been bought by a leading insurance group in the state.
On June 1, Denton-Merritt-Dycus, which specializes in personalized insurance solutions, was acquired by Troxell, an independent insurance agency.
Both agencies are headquartered in Springfield.
Troxell President and CEO Todd Sowle released a statement following the acquisition commending the decades of clientele relationships Denton-Merritt-Dycus has built and will continue to uphold following the movement of the agency under Troxell’s umbrella.
“This acquisition is part of a broader effort to grow intentionally while staying true to who we are,” Sowle said. “Their commitment to relationships, service and community mirrors our own.”
While the purchase of Denton-Merritt-Dycus is the most recent move Troxell has made. In recent years, the company has expanded their footprint in central Illinois by opening an office in Decatur, as well as acquiring the former Land of Lincoln Credit Union building adjacent to the headquarters at 300 S. Grand Ave. W. in Springfield.
David Merritt said the merger between the two companies would not impact client service or moving from their building; he carried on to say he was looking forward to giving quality service as the company has always upheld.
Central Illinois insurance firms
Denton-Merritt-Dycus was founded in 1960. The agency’s name reflects its origins with “Denton” and “Merritt” representing the founding partners, and “Dycus” representing the current owner of Ronald Dycus.
The firm is located at 2800 S. Sixth St. Suite Three in the city and serves Chatham, Riverton, Rochester, Williamsville, Auburn and Petersburg.
Troxell is a legacy agency, dating back to 1887 and while based in the capital city, has locations throughout Illinois and is licensed to write business in all 50 states, taking cases nationally.
The group has won Best Practices agency for insurance in 2022, 2023 and 2024 from Reagan Consulting’s annual “Big I” competition.
